About this work
The Green Button is a government-backed sustainability certification scheme for the textile and apparel sector, focused on advancing human rights and environmental due diligence within global supply chains. As part of a wider review of the scheme's standards, assurance and governance framework, Social Strata was engaged to support the development of a renewed vision, mission and strategic direction to ensure the scheme remains relevant, credible and impactful within a rapidly evolving sustainability and regulatory landscape.

What we did
Social Strata designed and facilitated a multi-stakeholder strategy development process involving licensed companies, manufacturers, civil society organisations and prospective scheme participants. Through stakeholder engagement, surveys, desktop research, competitor benchmarking and strategic analysis, Social Strata identified key industry challenges, stakeholder priorities and opportunities for differentiation within the sustainability certification landscape. The findings were synthesised into a renewed vision and mission for the scheme, together with strategic goals and recommendations to support the standard’s future development and strengthen its role in advancing responsible business conduct within global textile supply chains.
The result
The project helped define a renewed vision and strategic direction for the Green Button certification scheme at a critical stage in its development. By bringing together diverse stakeholder perspectives, the work strengthened alignment on the scheme's future role, priorities and value proposition, providing a clear foundation for the next phase of standards revision and implementation.
